Cheated on a birthday

Well, yeah I feel sort of cheated.

Since the start of my work contract in May, I’ve been looking forward to having an extended long weekend this Canada Day weekend. Tomorrow is Canada Day. Tomorrow the country celebrates its 137th birthday. On the list of holidays that I got, I saw that the company marked the 2nd of July as a holiday. Well, awesome. I was so pleased that the company was generous enough to give us Friday off as well knowing that having a statutory holiday land on a Thursday, and forcing people to come back on the Friday just wouldn’t work.

Apparently I was mistaken.

Instead, we’re still being given Friday off, but we’re required to come in on Thursday. What the hell is that all about? Thursday’s a statutory holiday. That’s just rotten.

Minority

Yesterday was the big federal election here in Canada. I left work early to do my duty. Apparently work places are required to give people a 3 hour window in order for people to cast their votes. Polls here closed at 9:30, meaning that I had to be free between 6:30 to 9:30. That was my excuse for ducking out of work. I probably could have stayed later…but why would I have wanted to?

I’m not sure whether to be happy or not about almost all ridings in the GTA voting in their Liberal candidates. I guess in the end the people bought into the notion that Liberals were more centrist than the Conservatives. Whether or not that’s true…well, we won’t know.

That being said, a Liberal Minority government…it’ll surely keep the Parliament on its toes.

Less risky

I was just watching SexTV on CityTV when this particular blurb popped up. I find it amusing:

“…it remains less risky to buy a gun than a dildo in Georgia”

Does anyone else find something not right about that?

All hands on deck

All the houses in our area are new. So far no one has started putting up fences in our backyard. From the end of our street, you can see this long strip of green running in between the long line of houses. It was unbroken…oh until this past Friday. From this past Wednesday a deck was under construction in our backyard. It was finished just yesterday. I think it looks absolutely awesome. It’s pretty big too.

First order of business was to have a barbecue on our new deck. Holy crap, it’s been…4 or 5 years since I’ve actually had home barbecued stuff. It brought back memories of my old house in Brampton. Back then during the summer months we barbecued stuff very frequently. I was the grill guy. It was usually me who was tending to the barbecue. I was out there getting smoke in my eyes, getting bug bitten, tending to overgrown flames–and loving every minute of it.

There’s nothing like a bit of flame-kissed meat.

Why am I still here?

It’s the England vs. Portugal match going on right now. The majority of people on my floor have stopped working and are gathering around someone’s cubicle to watch the match. This is a video-graphics related company so we do have many TVs and panels around the office used for testing. It just so happenes that one section of the floor has cable connected.

Anyway, every few minutes you can hear a large group ooh-ing and aah-ing about someone’s attempts or what not. Because of that, it’s making me think, what the hell am I still doing here? If everyone’s stopped working, why am I still here?

Shit, that’s it, I’m going home.

New face

I’ve been taking more opportunities to use my digital camera to take numerous shots of myself. I usually do it for the purposes of making graphics or avatars or what not. It’s an interesting process.

I usually end up taking about 30 shots, but in the end I only choose maybe 2-5 of them because the rest are crap. It’s kind of like what goes on in a professional shoot, isn’t it? They just take many many shots and narrow them down to just a few. Well, the new avatar you see on the left is one of the pics that I like this time around. Someone said it’s a cute pic. I will unashamedly agree.

Zonked

Man, I just got into work and I’m already zonked out. I was feeling that way all throughout my commute in. It’s like…my mind isn’t fully here. I tried lots of things in the van to try to get better. I turned on air conditioning to cool things down. I turned it off. I opened the windows. I put in a CD. I took out the CD and played the radio. Nothing worked.

I think it might have something to do with the light–it’s incredibly bright out there.

On second thought, it might be that leftover lasagna I ate. I think all my blood is rushing to my stomach trying to digest that thing. :P

My head hurts.

(You know, I think I’m going to stop trying to keep entries to only one a day. If I feel like posting, I’ll post…)

Smack

Listen dudes, my patience for a lot of things is wearing thin lately.

I’m finding more and more than I’m just not the type of person who is capable of listening to someone talk smack. It never really was an issue before, only because the people I was usually around were a lot more sensible. It’s really not about me being a dry person. I can be a humourous guy…although admittedly I’ve got many darker streaks shining through.

Anyway.

Nowadays I’m around a different crowd at work. In particular there are those who’re into telling raucous stories about various exploits of theirs where they’re acting like general asses–socially, sexually, whatever. In small doses, it’s tolerable, but a barrage of a few hours? It makes me want to smack some of them upside the head.
