“Take a giant happy pill, shutup.”

It’s harsh advice, but it’s relevant and to the point.

Someone gave me that advice earlier today, and it’s very true. Has there been a point lately where I can honestly say, “well, damn, I’m happy about my life right now”. Well, y’all know the answer to that one.

I actually envy the person who gave me this advice. She claims to be in a state of perpetual happiness. Despite any bouts of self-doubt that might be going through her head, she’s still overall happy. Good for her, I say. In my case, apparently I’m just always in critical mode. I overanalyze and pick away at every move I make.

Man, it’s what I do. It’s what I do best.

That’s got to change.

Hoarse

Oh, good grief, I’m exhausted.

Err…playing 3 hours of DDR would do it, but no that’s not all. As I’ve mentioned many times in the past few months I’m co-emceeing (yikes, that’s an unpretty word) Engineering Orientation week this year. We’re also leading a particular group whose role is security and the execution of all the events. This group is supposed to look intimidating and quite tough. In truth, these guys are a laugh riot.

We hired about 30+ of them, and honestly I think we made a good decision. I’m basing that off of the events that have taken place today. We had a bit of a retreat where we wanted to train them further. Unfortunately, my partner was away in Calgary, so I was going at it on my own.

Maybe it was just, but everyone seemed to be in good spirits. It’s like many of them seemed to gel together well. It’s definitely a good sign. I’m optimistic about how the week will turn out.

Feel the rhythm

I posted a little while ago about my futile attempts to get a copy of DDRMax 2. That didn’t go so well. As a result, I turned to the one source that you can rely on to find harder to obtain stuff.

eBay is my friend.

After a mini bidding war, I managed to snag the game for about $35 bucks US which isn’t all that bad. I mean, I took a look at the Electronic Boutique website and it’s priced at $40. Not too shabby.

My world is shrinking

A group from our company was walking around the floor with a measuring tape. They were promptly making measurements and various plans all over the place. Apparently they’re planning on reorganizing how all the departments are located. New offices will be located where there currently are none. Cubicles will be shrunken down a bit to accomodate new employees.

I really don’t know how this will affect me. I suspect that I’ll end up moving off to some far corner of the office.

People are already making plans with regards to the move. There was this group from another department circling my area pointing at spaces saying “oh, I want that cubicle” and “who’re we going to evict?” There’s one cubicle across from mine whose opening faces a doorway. It’s not private at all. The same group was musing “we ought to stick a co-op in that space”.

Fuckers.

Shit or get off the pot

Wow.

Everyone goes through hardships in their life. Some people go through a lot while others seem to sail by. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it is, right?

When responsibility calls, you can choose to take its cross upon your back and walk with it. If I know someone who’s having trouble, I’m more than willing to just sit and listen. Sometimes that’s all that a person needs. I’ll have a lot of respect for someone who can carry such heavy burdens.

However.

Maybe it’s just today, but I seem to be unable to tolerate it when someone is absolutely fickle about such things. Either take the responsibility, or don’t. You can complain about the consequences–I’m fine with that. Just don’t repeatedly switch solutions. I can’t keep up with all the solutions-du-jour.

Shit or get off the pot.

My Collection

I’m only mentioning this because Jenelle brought it up in passing.

I have a decent collection of Sailormoon related media. Not many people know because it’s a tad embarassing. Although, my roommates are quite aware.

Here’s some of the official stuff I’ve got sitting on my shelf (translations appear in brackets).

(DVD) Musical: 10th Anniversary Festival Ai no Sanctuary (Sanctuary of Love)

Anti-productivity

I can afford it. I can take my parents out to lunch every now and then and take care of the bill. It’s a damn good feeling.

After church I decided to treat them both out for an early father’s day gift. I mean, I could’ve done so next week, but that’s when all the restaurants would’ve been packed, right? So today was the day. We all ate well. When we got home, I just plopped on the bed and slept.

That’s how I spent most of my weekend actually. Sleeping away the day is so unbelievably counter-productive. Interestingly enough, if I were to somehow liberate that time from the shackles of my self-induced coma, I’d be hard-pressed to find something to do with that time.

Patience

It’s Friday.

I usually like writing out entries that are pretty coherent. Somehow though, I’m getting the odd feeling that this one won’t be one of them.

So far it’s been one of those days where even the smallest thing could alter my mood. I could feel slighted. I could feel abandoned. Oh, but the good thing is that I’ve been keeping myself busy properly. I finally got my testbench code to actually compile.

I’m doing a lot of crazy juggling with this one project. I have one script that generates an input file for another file I have. That was the original purpose. However, my script’s capabilities need to be expanded because it needs to work with a broader range of test cases. So, now my script generates also generates the files that need the input files that I could already generate. Confused yet? If I have to make a correction when testing, I usually make the changes to the already generated files so that I don’t have to recreate them altogether. If those changes work, I have to make the changes in my generation script so that it can redo the changes I made to what the script already output.
