Sandals upon my feet

While my aunts are here, I thought that it’d be nice to take them to Cookstown to the outlet mall. Last time I was there was October 2003 which was pretty long ago. Nothing much has changed there, really–except for maybe one store that had once had men’s clothing. I walked in there and got a few funny looks. They stopped selling men’s stuff altogether. Go figure. It’s not the first time something like that happened.

As we entered the mall, I could tell my aunts and my mom were starting to get giddy with excitement. After getting a quick bite to eat, we turned on our cellphones and went off on our separate ways. Actually, the women all left together; I just wandered about on my own.

I think I was productive. I came to spend some cash, and that I did. Mind you, if I were a more patient man, I probably would have been able to spend some more.

I tried on a lot of shirts. Apart from two simple t-shirts at the Reebok outlet, I didn’t get much clothing. In the winter I complain about not seeing many short-sleeve polos in the stores. Well duh, of course not. Now that it’s summer, I haven’t been able to purchase any. So many of the ones I see are those plaid button downs that you see often. I think I have enough of those in my closet. When I see them I pass them over now. I don’t want to over do things. Of course, that makes things difficult. I was able to find a few non-plaid items, but they were either too big or too small.

For example, I was over at the Kodiak outlet and tried on a size large black polo. Looking in the mirror, I felt like I was swimming in the shirt. The shoulder positions were all wrong. I tried a medium, and it looked like I was being squeezed into it. I’m a tough guy to find clothes for.

Other stores just didn’t catch my interest. I ventured into the Tommy Hilfiger outlet for a look around. The colour palette there is so freakin’ light. I don’t care if it’s summer. I’m not a pastel sort of guy. Other things that weren’t so light just weren’t made of fabrics that work for me. I mean, I sweat a lot. Last thing I need is to be wearing something that uses polyester a great deal. Forget about it.

I honestly thought I was done with the mall, so I called the family up and joined them. In the time it took for me to do a good circle around the place, they had only visited about a third of the places they could’ve. Once we started moving again, one of them dropped by a shoe store. I waited outside for a while but eventually joined her inside. As I was looking around, I spotted some men’s sandals. Now, I’m usually not the type to go for such footwear. I go for stuff that’s comfortable. Usually that means hiking boots. I wear those boots every season–including during hot summer months. Because of my flat feet I tend to stick with whatever works. Last thing I need is the pain involved with breaking in a new pair of shoes/boots. A breaking-in period involves a great deal of pain and shin aching. It’s not pleasant at all. Hiking boots provide me with a great deal of ankle support. I need that. That being said, I was just curious as to how sandals would look.

Now, one of my male roommates was once asked by a female roommate about wearing sandals. He was adamantly against them. My guess it that perhaps he thought wearing such things was a bit feminine. Whatever. I’ll admit that some of the ones I saw were kind of odd-looking, However, I suddenly came upon a pair that I consider to be pretty damn masculine. I had to try them on in the store, and that was a tad embarassing. I mean, one of the side-effects of wearing boots in the summer is that those things can cause a stink with all the sweating. The pair I chose fits really well. It’s surprisingly comfortable. I wouldn’t be embarassed to wear those things out too. It’s a step forward.

Bwahahah…”step”
