I’m tanned dark. Yesterday I was still recovering from a sunburn, meaning I was glowing an eerie pinkish/brown. As someone put it, think of a chocolate strawberry timbit. As I type this thing, my nose is starting to peel. I’m trying to resist the urge to pick at the peeling skin…but it’s a failing battle.
As I mentioned mosquitos went to town with me. I do remember putting on a lot of bug spray, but I suppose that it all came off when we went swimming in the lake. I just neglected to put some more on. You know what you call that? Stupidity. Also, I was wearing sandals at night–which is a really bad idea. It’s just as bad as wearing shorts at night. However, I was smart enough to wear jeans, eh? Strangely enough, even though I was wearing short-sleeved shirts my arms were relatively spared.
Ah, so yes, this trip was a big success. Truthfully, I had a great deal more fun this time around than last year. I promised myself that I would let go and not over-think anything. That’s just what I did. It almost makes me wonder why I do such things to myself during other times. Ah, but then I realize that wondering about such things is thinking too much in itself, so then I stop. I’m glad that the 13 of us got along well together. It’s a great group to go out with for the weekend.
My Saturday started off in a mini-panic over what to bring. I’m glad to say though, that everything that I wanted to bring, I brought–umm…well, almost everything. Sunglasses, camera, it was all there. For once I got it right. The only thing I forgot was Sudafed for my cough, which seemed minor at the time.
Andrew and Yvonne drove over to my place. The plan was to have Andrew leave his car at my place and we’d head to Karen’s place to pick up more stuff. We were in a bit of a rush because we thought we were late. However, when we arrived, we were surprised to find that we were the first ones there. We decided to head over to the nearest supermarket to pick up a pack of Sudafed for the trip. Good thing too. It came in damn handy during the trip. When we got back, we even more surprised to find that no one else showed up in that interval of time. We were joking, “damn us for being so responsible!” To pass time we were singing that Pepto Bismol commercial.
Nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea–yay Pepto Bismol!
Soon enough the others arrived. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that another van would be coming along for the ride. It considerably lightened the load of my van and made things just a bit more comfortable for everyone. After everyone’s stuff was reorganized, we were on our way.
We were the second vehicle of four to arrive because we stopped for lunch. We were still far ahead of the other two cars though. Heh. It almost seems like I’m on the Amazing Race or something. Whatever.
The actual campsites were larger than the ones I remember from last year. I’m happy to say that this time around my tent wasn’t on the same site as where we all gathered for food. Last year my tent was close to the food, and at night you could hear all the raccoons and wildlife convening at our site. Oddly enough, we didn’t spot any raccoons this year. I think all the campsites were sufficiently close enough to just make living in the trees a bad choice for wildlife that are shy of humans.
After everything was set up, we quickly made the decision to head to the beach. That’s where we spent most of our awake time. The lake water was damn cold, but once you sumberge yourself you’re just fine. We spent our time floating, tossing the football around (in and out of the water), laying in the sun…it was all good.
Dinner was quite the experience. We went luxury the first night and had striploin steaks with tons of veggies. You know steak is good when you’re somehow able to use a plastic knife to easily slice it. That was awesome steak. The second night we had burgers, hot dogs, sausages, corn, and yams. Dude, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Of course, there were also the required marshmallows and smores. Let’s just say that food was not an issue this trip.
We ended up leaving the park Monday afternoon after being at the beach for a while. This is when I got burned. No matter. I don’t feel too bad. Mind you, I’m pretty self-conscious at this moment with things feeling easily. I’m sure my nose is pretty red right now. I don’t plan on leaving my cubicle anytime soon.
