Flavours of iPod mini

After another strenuous day at the lab (yet again), I decided to go to the CampusTechShop to use my $175 worth in gift certificates. I got $100 from the Dean of Engineering as a gift for running Engineering Frosh Week 2004. I got the other $75 for slapping together a collage for use with the first-year engineering site. Oddly enough, they still haven’t used the collage. On the one hand, it a bit disappointing that my work still isn’t up. On the other hand…I still got paid. So, whatever.

Anyway, as much as I could have used the cash to buy UW branded clothing, I decided that I’d rather get a new gadget of some sort. I finally decided to grab an iPod. A friend of mine has a 20GB one, and when I saw it I was amazed at just how small the thing looked. I asked him how much it cost him and he sheepishly said that he won his. Apparently he won it off the Pepsi iPod contest where an iPod is given away every hour. Heh. Wow, small world, eh? I almost want to enter myself…but I don’t think I have the patience to play…especially with exams. Whoo.

So, alright, I’ve seen the 20GB iPod. So many people say though, “oh, but I don’t have enough music to fill the thing” and “I’ve only used up a gig so far”. Well gee, that’s sort of a waste of space, isn’t it? Consequently, I decided that an iPod mini would be a better choice for me.

So, alright, Keith, Henrick, and I go to the store in the SLC and start pawing the brochures. They had these thick card ads that had a picture of an iPod mini that popped out of the thing. I took one for every colour. I narrowed it down to green, blue or silver. Gold and pink were…well, low on the list. Mind you, silver is kind of boring, isn’t it? I asked the clerk about the blue one, and after some checking on his computer he stated that only silver ones were in stock at the moment. I was so set on buying one that I said it was fine. The thing was that all the iPod merchandise was in the manager’s office, and the manager had gone home early to get ready for the Christmas party. Fortunately, he left his key with another person. Unfortunately, that person also left early for the Christmas party.

Well, I took that as a sign that I just wasn’t meant to get the silver one; and why would I when the coloured ones are so much cooler?

So, I really want to know what opinion people have on what iPod colour would suit me. Man, if there was a dark red one, I’d be \\so\\ all-over that one. Here are my current opinions.

Pink: Well, it’s close to dark red…I guess. From an angle it looks pretty nifty. Still–Hot Pink? Nuh-uh.

Silver: Well, it looks pretty standard, I guess. I’m sure it’s nice, but it looks sort of boring, no?

Gold: I’ve seen someone pull a gold one out. My first reaction was, “ick”. Maybe the white wheel just doesn’t go with the gold. Who knows?

Green: It’s sort of pukey-green…but I think that the electric-lime feel is sort of nifty.

Blue: Pretty nifty, but I’ve been told by Henrick that many people have that colour. What fun is that?

Anyway, I’m dropping by the tech shop on Monday after class and stuff to see what they’ve got available. Who knows, I may be the owner of a new iPod mini by the end of the 6th.
