Performance Machine

Especially during exam time, I’d like to think of my body as some sort of command-performance machine. If I tell it to study for 5 hours, it should do so. If I tell it to get 3 hours of sleep, it should do so. That’s all well and good, but drinking coffee tends to hijack the system. It’s evil.

Last night at about 9, I had a large coffee in an effort to keep me somewhat alert. At about 2, I was yawning uncontrolably and decided that I needed to get at least a few hours of sleep. I had full intention of getting up three hours later to get back to the books. The thing is, the coffee kept me buzzed for a very long time. In the silence, I could feel the effects of the caffiene coarsing through my veins. If I wasn’t feeling tired, I was feeling hungry. My stomach was growling very loudly. All of this continued until some time past 4. Because of the late start, my whole schedule was set off course. I ended up waking up at 8, thus losing 3 hours of valuable cram time.

Coffee, you must wait until after the exam period. I will not let you do that to me again.
