Act of postponement

I’m writing this entry as a way for me to distract myself from studying. I have five finals coming up within the next 9 days–which is mind-boggling, if you ask me. I say this despite the fact that I’ve had worse exam scheduling scenarios. I guess what makes this time different is that…umm…hell, I don’t know whether it’s any different or not. It sure feels different. I’m scared, but I’m not in that horrible state of panic that I was in last term I was here.

Of course, that’s not to say that I feel like shit. I probably need to stretch, or get some exercise. I need a breather. Thing is, I’ve been taking breaks a bit too often for my liking. I don’t know what to do with myself. Heh. My tune might change after tomorrow’s exam. Maybe then it’ll hit me that this is “do or die” time.

Holy fuck, can you believe that Marie is already finished with all of her exams? Damn.

I want to go back to being a normal young adult.

…and that’s all I have done

You feel as if something must be put right. Your attempts at rectification just manage to miss the mark. All you can do is your best.

Too late for that…

Someone, who you believe is behaving rather peculiarly, is thinking quite the same thing about you. It’s essentially a positive situation if you deal with it correctly. Employ your diplomatic skills to broach a tricky topic. You’ll be glad when you do.

Foiled again!

Ow, I’ve got a blister on the top of my middle toe on my right foot. Hey, don’t ask me how the heck I got a blister there, but I have one and it hurts like heck.

I’ve been foiled again. The guy who checked the iPod stock on Friday was looking on the wrong line. As it turns out Apple will be sending out more inventory this coming Thursday, meaning that the blue one will be in next Monday. Boo! So, it looks like I’ll be without for the next few days. It’s probably for the best anyway, since we’re now deep in the heart of exam time.

Still celebratin’

Well, sort of.

Way back, early in November, Jenelle bought me a Deep ‘n Delicious cake to celebrate my birthday. I stored it in the fridge hoping to eat it all later. Thing is, I’d forgotten about it for a good while. I found it again yesterday and thought, “man, I wonder if this thing is still OK…” Not one to shy away from eating “seemingly old, but in decent condition food,” I had a piece earlier today.

Now, it’s not like there was anything growing on it or anything, but regardless, it tasted a bit aged, but still edible. Time will tell whether it was a good idea or not.

It’s not the only aged thing I ate today. I had this bag of Dempsters bread that’s been sitting in the fridge for a long time. The only reason I don’t generally buy bread is that I hardly ever finish the loaf on time. It usually just sits there for extended periods getting no notice. This is true, especially of this term where I’ve been in absolutely no mood to cook (today I went to Wok Wagon for Cantonese Pork dinner combo…on Friday it was Domino’s Pizza). Anyway, I had a few slices of bread from that old loaf. It was still alright with some jam and butter.

Funny I mention this. This is almost a repeat of an entry I wrote in July 2003 about another old Dempster’s loaf. The only changes between that time and this time is that I used blueberry jam this time around, and thickness wasn’t Texas Style.

Flavours of iPod mini

After another strenuous day at the lab (yet again), I decided to go to the CampusTechShop to use my $175 worth in gift certificates. I got $100 from the Dean of Engineering as a gift for running Engineering Frosh Week 2004. I got the other $75 for slapping together a collage for use with the first-year engineering site. Oddly enough, they still haven’t used the collage. On the one hand, it a bit disappointing that my work still isn’t up. On the other hand…I still got paid. So, whatever.

Anyway, as much as I could have used the cash to buy UW branded clothing, I decided that I’d rather get a new gadget of some sort. I finally decided to grab an iPod. A friend of mine has a 20GB one, and when I saw it I was amazed at just how small the thing looked. I asked him how much it cost him and he sheepishly said that he won his. Apparently he won it off the Pepsi iPod contest where an iPod is given away every hour. Heh. Wow, small world, eh? I almost want to enter myself…but I don’t think I have the patience to play…especially with exams. Whoo.

So, alright, I’ve seen the 20GB iPod. So many people say though, “oh, but I don’t have enough music to fill the thing” and “I’ve only used up a gig so far”. Well gee, that’s sort of a waste of space, isn’t it? Consequently, I decided that an iPod mini would be a better choice for me.

So, alright, Keith, Henrick, and I go to the store in the SLC and start pawing the brochures. They had these thick card ads that had a picture of an iPod mini that popped out of the thing. I took one for every colour. I narrowed it down to green, blue or silver. Gold and pink were…well, low on the list. Mind you, silver is kind of boring, isn’t it? I asked the clerk about the blue one, and after some checking on his computer he stated that only silver ones were in stock at the moment. I was so set on buying one that I said it was fine. The thing was that all the iPod merchandise was in the manager’s office, and the manager had gone home early to get ready for the Christmas party. Fortunately, he left his key with another person. Unfortunately, that person also left early for the Christmas party.

Well, I took that as a sign that I just wasn’t meant to get the silver one; and why would I when the coloured ones are so much cooler?

So, I really want to know what opinion people have on what iPod colour would suit me. Man, if there was a dark red one, I’d be \\so\\ all-over that one. Here are my current opinions.

Pink: Well, it’s close to dark red…I guess. From an angle it looks pretty nifty. Still–Hot Pink? Nuh-uh.

Silver: Well, it looks pretty standard, I guess. I’m sure it’s nice, but it looks sort of boring, no?

Gold: I’ve seen someone pull a gold one out. My first reaction was, “ick”. Maybe the white wheel just doesn’t go with the gold. Who knows?

Green: It’s sort of pukey-green…but I think that the electric-lime feel is sort of nifty.

Blue: Pretty nifty, but I’ve been told by Henrick that many people have that colour. What fun is that?

Anyway, I’m dropping by the tech shop on Monday after class and stuff to see what they’ve got available. Who knows, I may be the owner of a new iPod mini by the end of the 6th.

My Mantra

Keith says:
Well, I guess we should prepare ourselves. This is the last day we can get away without working as hard as possible. After this it’s study study study.

Keith says:
Did I mention I hate my life?

Deep fried says:
funny. “i hate my life” is my mantra too as i walk to school
