Renovations

A few months ago I mentioned that the company I work for was considering renovating the office space. It’s been a very long time since then, but it’s only recently that they’ve started performing work on our floor.

Cubicles and offices have been torn down and replaced with redistributed cubicles and offices. Often, in the morning when I come in, I would be surprised by walls that weren’t there the night before. When you’re used to seeing the same office layout daily, any change puts you off guard. I’ve been amazed to see just how expansive the floor is. Without the walls, the places looks huge. New walls for offices have already been put in. It amazes me seeing how many offices they’ve been able to squeeze in to what I thought was a sort of cramped space.

We’ve all had to put up with hammering, drilling, vacuuming, the odor of paint, yelling of phrases like “2 more inches to your left! No! Your other left!” People have been popping tiles in the ceiling, trying to run cables across. I put on my headphones and listen to music in the attempt of drowning out the noise, but it really doesn’t work. I still get headaches.

As cubicles have been torn down, employees have had to shift around to vacant locations. I’ve seen many people shifting their belongings from place to place. There’s still a lot of argument over where people’s final locations are going to be. It seems that there’s some sort of seniority thing going on. Cubicles by the windows are prime real-estate. I’ve heard numerous people complaining about how some people get better locations than others, claiming that they’re somehow less deserving. Jealousy is an ugly thing. I don’t think they should complain. Most of them get cable TV in their cubicle. I don’t have that. Yes. I’m jealous. It’s an ugly thing. Blah blah blah.

Personally, I haven’t had to move yet. I somehow doubt I’ll have to move at all. My particular area has been spared, although just a few cubicles down the demolition has been heavy. It’s probably best that I don’t move anyway. Why gamble with the fact that I may get a worse spot?

Anyway, back to my sim.
