Toronto’s has been doing the Green Bin Program over the past little while. It has been alive and well in Scarborough for a while now, because of that fact that we were one of the guinea pig area for the program. Etobicoke was the other part of the city that took part in the experiment. Anyway, the great thing, I find, about the program is that the regular trash is a whole lot less nasty smelling since most of the foodstuffs and organic stuff goes into the green bin. Because of the reduction, even having bi-weekly garbage pick ups (alternating with recycling) isn’t such a bad thing at all. Of course, the green bin needs to be picked up weekly. I mean, we can’t have the sloppy organic goop sitting around for too long.
(Lord, I almost feel sorry for the guys that have to empty the bins. I hope they’re being compensated well).
Anyway, our neighbourhood is fairly new. This is a new subdivision. This is our third year living here. Now, the fact that this is a new area meant, in our minds, that the area is free of raccoons. There certainly aren’t any squirrels in the area. Holy, I still remember those freaking critters all over the place in Brampton. Anyway, tonight, as I was starting to take the recycling bins out front, I was shocked to see the green bin tipped over, with some of the bags torn open with food garbage strewn on the lawn.
There’s a lock on the bin. I think it’s pretty strong. The Green Bin FAQ states that the bin was designed to keep animals out. And yet, somehow the thing was opened. I’ve got no clue what happened. Maybe one of us just didn’t lock the bin properly. Hell, I somehow don’t even believe there are raccoons around. I can’t imagine where they’d live. This is a mystery that’s gnawing away at my mind.
Now that the garbage is out in front of the house, I’m a bit paranoid. I fear that something will start tearing everything up leaving the street in a big mess. I find myself having to peek out from my blinds just to reassure myself.
What the heck is going on?
