An unexpected benefit

I’m finding it a little bit strange, yet amazing (to me) that I’m sort of expanding my circle of friends through the Running Room. I mean, the original Learn to Run group that I was with still manages to get together every so often to socialize. This is despite the fact that we’ve all sort of split apart into different running levels. Today we gathered together at an Italian restaurant in Markham (seemed like a fancy place) and had a really good time. Sure, I was still socially shy because, really, that’s the type of person I am. As well, I’m the youngest one there–most of the rest of the group has a good ten years plus on me. It’s hard to join in on certain conversations, know what I mean? In spite of all this, I felt at ease.

At some point, I even got invited to someone’s house where a couple of them were gathering together for a games night with pizza and beer. Eh? How awesome is that? Hahah. Thing is, I think that event is taking place next Saturday night, and I have a monitoring shift to do for work. Sucks! Maybe they have wireless there…who knows? Still, it might be rude to do that at someone else’s place.

Anyway, I feel fortunate. This was an unexpected benefit of joining a running group. I feel like I’m spreading out my web of connections further and further out. I recognize that in doing so fortune will come to me without me seeking it out. It always come from unexpected directions, doesn’t it?
