Forces of nature

Seems that the forces of nature have trumped all of my plans today. They’ve been warning about this storm for a few days now. In the end, yeah, we got a lot of snow dumped on us, but it wasn’t as bad as some of the news reports sensationalized it as. Eh, well actually, I suppose I can’t really make that claim since I’ve been warm inside the house all day today. I spent a good chunk of the day catching up on sleep. I do feel well rested right now, despite the fact that my father an I spent almost two hours out there just cleaning our driveway.

Those other plans would have been a lot of fun, but rest is just as good. Today was supposed to be my planned 10K run in Ajax. The other day, I was anticipating the storm and listening to all the reports that the roads would be treacherous in the morning. So, I resigned myself to not attending. There’s a little irony in that the run was called the “Snowflake Run.” So, what else was I expecting for the race? What’s the “Snowflake Run” without a little snow? Well yeah…but a lot of snow? Hmm…I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I remember doing a long run in the snow. It wasn’t pleasant (damn it, I didn’t write about it…). I suppose I’m now in my down season for running. I’ll write about that another time though.

So, that would have been my morning. I would have spent the afternoon recovering so that I would be able to attempt to enjoy myself at the company holiday party that would have taken place tonight. Eh, you know how I just adooooooore parties like this. To be honest, I think I mentally treat it just like another day at work. You have to be there and make a showing just so that you come off as being a team member. Sure, I enjoyed it to an extent last year, but I don’t think I’d ever reach the level of ease that I would want to be at. I think, in my department, I would have been the only one not bringing a guest. Ugh. Screw you, world! Anyway, on Friday, HR decided that it would be too dangerous to have everyone come out during the storm, so it got postponed to January. Nice. Well, can’t argue with nature, right?

Anyway, here I am now, blogging in my robe. I sort of feel like I haven’t accomplished enough this weekend. Well, I haven’t have I? Doesn’t matter, I guess. I can’t be on the ball all the time, right? The end of the year is speeding toward us. All is well.
