Today was my first day back to work after the break, and man, it was hard to get back into the swing of things. I was lying in bed listening to the radio announcer talking about how frigid the weather was going to be this morning. It’s hardly an invitation from Mother Nature to really leave the warmth of the house now is it? This has been the coldest day so far this winter. The fact that it’s landed on the first day back is just rotten luck. I mean, maybe if I was eased into the lower temperatures it wouldn’t be so bad. It would be like wading into a cool swimming pool before dunking your whole body in versus just diving right in and freezing your nuts off. Yeah yeah yeah, I keep saying I have a tolerance for cold. I still think I do, but I’m not inhuman: I’m perfectly capable of feeling the pain of frostbite.
When I got to work, I kept my toque on because I was in no mood to deal with hat head. As much as I was physically in the office, mentally I must have still been on vacation. I was taking my time completing my tasks, just easing into things, which would have been alright. However there were a few moments when I had to deal with the client where my mind just felt slow. I apologized once or twice, but the client just laughed it off. Well, I suppose they’re in slow mode as well.
Truth be told, I’m glad to be back at work. There’s only so much time off I can take before I start going insane and twitchy. I have a need to be productive.
