I’ve been a little disoriented today–I keep thinking it’s Saturday. Of course, it isn’t yet. It will be soon after I get to work in an hour or two. I’m not in the mood to do the midnight shift. I don’t feel like I’ve slept enough. Ah, but these are all just excuses. I know I can push through it.

I guess I’ll do some live blogging tonight. Writing my thoughts out should help ground me.

ETA: Check this post for updates…probably until 7:30am or so. Last updated at around 7:30am.

1:00am – The club downstairs is in full swing. The bass is rattling my computer case which is both amusing and annoying at the same time. Every now and then I’m hearing a siren go off following by a loud “whoo!” by the crowd.

Chee. They sure are having fun, aren’t they?

That’s OK. I’m having my own fun watching graphs at my desk. WHOOOO.

1:40am – I just brought out my laptop and popped in a Futurama Season 3 DVD. Last time I brought my laptop to watch DVDs the bugger kept overheating and shutting off. I bought a notebook cooler earlier today, but when I tried shoving it into my messenger bag it wouldn’t fit. So, I left it at home. Instead, I put my laptop on top of a tissue box in an attempt to make sure there’s enough air intake coming in underneath the unit. So far so good. At least it’s drowning out the music from downstairs.

2:20am – You know, to be honest, it seems like time is passing by at a good rate. Even though it’s an 8 hour shift, if I think that soon it will be sunrise then it all doesn’t seem so bad.

3:40am – You know, the music stopped pretty promptly at 3am. I’m kind of disappointed. I mean, I was really expecting people to party until 4 at the very least.

So far I’m still awake enough. I’m drinking green tea as a bit of a stimulant. As well, there’s someone else here to talk to. Well, last year there was a systems guy in office, but he was far off at the opposite end. At least this time there’s someone in the vicinity. It’s at least making the shift tolerable. Human contact is good.

4:30am – I’m hobbling around the office because of yesterday’s walk to the station. I’ve complained about my boots before, and yesterday only served to compound my grievances with those things. The boot was a little bit loose, and combined with the uneven walkways it caused my right ankle and right calf to become really sore.

Well, it’s not like I’m doing anything terribly strenuous right now, but walks to the washroom are uncomfortable. Meh. 3.5 more hours.

5:10am – Been snacking on little bits for the past few hours. I feel like a freakin’ pig. Groooss.

6:10am – Two more hours! I’m feeling alright. As I look out the window, I’m anticipating the first signs of sunrise. So far. nothing. It feels imminent though.

I’ve managed to get three mugs of tea out of one tea bag. I think I can get one more.

6:30am – On the way in, I saw long lines of revellers queueing up to get into the various nightclubs around the entertainment district. I just read from thestar.com about a couple of people that were stabbed just outside one of the clubs. Crazy stuff.

7:15am – You know that feeling when you feel a little bit light headed because of a lack of sleep? Yeah, I’m feeling that way right now. I guess I’m now allowing myself to get to this point because I know that my shift is almost over. The guy taking over from me messaged me and asked for a wake up call. I’ve just finished calling him, so I know that he’s going to make good time in getting here. I was waiting for a bit of sunlight or a bit of a orange tinged sky to appear, but it’s far too overcast/cloudy out there for that to happen, which is a bit of a pity.

Less than an hour to go.

7:30am – The light of day has revealed that it’s snowing. Eh…well…at least it hasn’t been snowing all night (to the best of my knowledge) because that’ll just make things really messy when I try to go home. Damn it, where’s the next guy?!
