Newscasts, steak, and decompression

I finished my midnight shift at about 8 am, leaving me a good chunk of the day to just unwind. I didn’t realize how much I miss being able to do some simple things, like watch the 6 o’clock weekday evening newscasts. I haven’t done that in a while. It seems like a ridiculous thing to miss, but I do enjoy staying informed and watching the talking heads with the family over dinner.

I actually had time to help out with dinner as well. Today marks the first day this year that we’ve fired up the barbecue. Usually we start grilling much earlier in the year like in March or so, but this year’s been so damn strange in terms of weather. Even though it was a little breezy, there was enough sunlight to set us all in the proper mindset for a good steak. Lord, how I missed nicely grilled steaks. It’s as if I’m tapping into this primeval need for meat cooked over a fire. Seriously, during my first bite of meat it could sense my distant ancestors stirring from their rest. Ha!

It’s only Friday, but it feels like a Saturday. That’s how restful today has been. Sure, I have a shift tomorrow at 4 pm, but even so I feel like I’m going to be very…decompressed from all of this schedule wackiness by the time a regular Monday rolls around.

Yay for Grillin! Al and I got ours out last weekend and I used it a couple of times since, including last night. I like using it because I can cook without heating up the kitchen so much.

Yeah, summer is nearly here! Whoo hoo!

Ooh summer. I feel like I’m changing in that I’m actually looking forward to the season. What’s wrong with me?!
