I have a late shift tonight, probably lasting until well after midnight. I just came in a little while ago at 4pm.

So, earlier this afternoon at home I finally decided that it was time to shave my facial hair off. I’ve been growing it since my return from Japan, and really I think I just needed a change. I originally thought that maybe a trim was in order, so I took the electric clippers and trimmed it down to about 3/8″. After seeing it though, I decided to just go ahead and complete the job. I took a disposable razor and off it all came.

Well, after seeing myself with hair for so long, the look shocked me. I think it looks like I lost weight. Obviously I look a heck of a lot cleaner too. This will all just take some getting used to. When I came into work, I think some of my colleagues were staring at me trying to figure out just what was different. Ha! I mentioned that really I’d only had the hair for 2 or 3 months and their reaction was disbelief. Short term memory is bad, perhaps? Or maybe the facial hair was just such a strong defining look for me that a strong association was inevitable? Eh, who knows? I think I’m going to be using the next few days just to evaluate how differently people treat me over the next little while. I give it a few months before the urge comes to grow something new.
