I was lying bed, wondering what to write about when a thought popped into my head about how interesting my room smells right now. And no, this entry is not about me passing gas, thanks. (You were thinking it!) Anyway, there are some competing layers to this bouquet. First of all, I decided to change the refill on the Febreze air freshener in my room. It’s been a long while since I changed the oils in it, so the vanilla scent has long since faded down to neutral. When I pulled the thing out of the socket, I took the oil bottle out and noticed the wick on the bottle had turned really dark brown. I guess all of the constant heating and reheating combined with the chemical type made it turn this colour, but man, it makes me wonder if anything odd was being released into the air all this time. Anyway, it’s now replaced and there’s this faint hint of vanilla in the air.
Now, the urge to change the air freshener came about because I had an urge to get the my room in order. I was planning on doing a huge amount of laundry, and subsequent folding/hanging to get things organized. I did a load of darks, then put it in the dryer. While that was going, I started some more darks. When the first load finished I took it out and plunked the basket content out on the bed. So, the scent of a static cling sheet in the air.
Now, before I got around to folding the load on my bed, I decided to move the load in the washer to the dryer. I did so and pulled the switch to turn it on. I was surprised when it didn’t turn on. I pulled on the switch a few more times, but I was getting the same result. Yeah, so our dryer broke down. That’s just great. I guess that’s one side-effect of the dryer breaking down, you know? I mean, under normal circumstances, you won’t know the dryer is malfunctioning without ending up with a load of wet laundry. Think about it for a moment. Well, I had to get as many free hangers from my closet and started hanging my clothes onto the towel bar in the shower. It would have been a good idea except that the towel bar isn’t designed to carry that kind of weight. After a few damp shirts the damn thing collapsed. I had to come up with a new plan. Well, beside the dryer was this collapsible rack thing that was just gathering dust. I took that out, dusted it off, brought it to my room and started hanging everything on it. So, I now have a load of clothes hanging on this thing with the fan blowing at it. The fan is making my room really cold. The drying clothes smell mildly damp, but it’s not too bad. It’s all kind of “April fresh.” As a side effect, since all of the free hangers are being used for clothes drying, I haven’t been able to work on the laundry pile on my bed.
So, to summarize, my attempts at being useful have been thwarted and as a side effect my room is smelling fresh but cold and humid. I’m going to have an odd time sleeping tonight.
