Teaching, yet again

There have been some rumours going around, and people have been asking me directly. Surely, what I post here isn’t going to inform everyone, but it’s a start.

Yes, I am going to be teaching the half-marathon clinic that’s starting at the end of October. Hey, I’m pretty shocked about it myself. I know that my stint teaching the Learn to Run went over really well. When the opportunity came up to be able to teach another clinic, the manager of the store asked me if I was interested in taking the next 5K clinic, or perhaps the half-marathon group. I told her I’d think about it, but really, my mind was already made up. I was honoured to be able to help.

At this point, I’m in the current half-marathon group. This is my fourth time through it, so I guess you can say I’m familiar enough with the program. I’m quite excited to bring my enthusiasm to my group. No doubt, most of the people in the group will be repeaters, and many of them will be familiar with me. I hope that I can be useful to them as a motivator.

My God, I’ve come a long way from my first steps as a runner. The common thing for me to say is that if you’d have told me about what I’d be doing two years later back when I was just starting out, I’d consider you crazy. You already knew that though. So instead, I’ll say that it’s taken me a lot of dedication and effort to get to where I am today. I’m still learning about my abilities, but I know I’m at a point where I can now help others reach their goals.

And in that sense, I truly feel blessed.

Good for you man, its great in two ways firstly that it shows your personal achievement being recognized (to have put in 2 years and be able to get such positive feedback) and be able to progress in something you enjoy doing.

    Win – win I reckon!

I maintain that even if I’m not the fastest, or the most graceful on my feet (clunk clunk, or stomp stomp, or waddle waddle–whatever) my enthusiasm is enough to get people moving. I like the fact that I can continue training at the level I’m at.

So yes: indeed it is win – win!
