Hmm. I am going to a wedding in less than two weeks. My suit’s pants are a little bit tight. I think I might have to eat lightly over the next while. Man, how do people that do this all the time function? I mean, I cut calories but I still manage to eat somewhat normally. Fasting might do me good. Should help to reset things. Gah!

Out like a light
Lately, as soon as I’ve hit my bed and turned on the pillar fan I’ve been out like a light. Doesn’t matter if the lights are on, or if I’m still in my running gear. Doesn’t matter if my wallet is digging into my back, or if there are computer cables pressing into my skin. There could be a lightning storm going on and I wouldn’t notice. I might be lying on my watch for all I know. My computer could be playing music but it wouldn’t keep mw awake especially with the white noise hum of the fan lying on top of it all. I don’t think the bed is the key. If I ever find myself horizontal on the coach I’ll end up passed out until 3 or 4 in the morning. All of this points to one key thing: I’m so very tired.
Check up
It’s been a while.
I need to go see a doctor.
I need to check if everything’s OK.
Far too many people around me are falling ill.
Ideally, I’d rather not be part of that group of people.
It would be far better to tackle any issues before they manifest.
I would have done this earlier…if only I wasn’t so bloody damn lazy.
Giving up resistance
Maybe it’s a factor of getting back into the hill training phase of my running clinic. Or maybe it’s just that everything I’m doing is starting to catch up to me. Whatever the case, I’m starting to feel somewhat fatigued. Nothing serious, but I need to rest more. Either that or I need to eat more. HAH! Yeah, that’s not it. I need to be cautious. I don’t want to be hurtling down the path toward burn out. That’s not a pleasant place to be, especially when there’s a lot that needs to be accomplished. What about taking vacation? I certainly wouldn’t be against it, but if I’m not doing anything meaningful what’s the point? I’m not sure what to do. I’ve been in this position many times in the past, and each time I’ve been able to plow right through. At some point though I’m going to end up throwing my hands up and giving up resistance. It’s not sustainable, you know?
Not going back
One weekend of really bad eating.
Spike of several pounds.
This foolishness needs to end.
I am not going back to where I once was.
Off-balance energy
No, I’m not sore. However, after today’s race I feel completely wrecked. It’s the feeling where I expended far too much energy in comparison to the amount I put in. I’m happy, but I’m in recovery mode for the next little while. I’ll write more about the race in the next post. I’m just….really exhausted.
PSA: Note on an extract
Fair warning.
Eating a balanced diet with good amounts of fibre is a good thing. Just beware if any products that you eat contain chicory root extract, or inulin. There’s a fair chance that your body will not do so well with either ingredient. The result is perhaps the worst gas pains you’ll feel in a while. Heck, I’d put the side effects up there with times when I eat chick peas.
Just thought I’d pass that along. Heh.
Experience with dehydration
Hey, good thing about running is that I’ve become familiar with symptoms of dehydration. It doesn’t happen as often these days because I tend to adequately prepare, but long ago I used to always get these horrible migraines after my long runs. Like I’ve commonly mentioned, it felt like someone took a steel rod and shoved it through my head. It took me a while to figure it out, but I finally realized it was due to dehydration and generally not drinking enough fluids. As soon as I started doing a better job of preparing the headaches stopped coming.
And so we come to today. I went for a walk in the heat at about noon. When I came back, I was sweating a fair bit. I decided to nap on the couch with the electric fan blasting at my face. Also the air conditioning was bearing down from above. All of that acted to dry me out even more. The TV was on the whole time adding to the heat in the apartment. I woke up with a bit of a headache. Figuring the air conditioning was causing some issues due to the temperature differences, I shut it off and opened the balcony door. The temperature in my place quickly rose to about 30°C. I fell asleep, but when I woke up the headache was even worse. I tried to go about my day, but every moment made me feel like I was going to vomit. Bad! Of course, I knew how to remedy the situation. I filled a zipper bag with ice, put it in a sock so that it wouldn’t be directly in contact with my skin, and placed it under the base of my head. That seemed to be where most of my pain was. Within an hour or so the headache faded. The temperature in here is still freaking hot, but I can deal with it.
Hurrah for experience with self-remedy.
