If I only had my camera with me

I’ve been pretty good about bringing my new camera to work. I mean, when I remember to bring it with me on my lunchtime walks I’ve been able to capture some interesting things. That doesn’t mean though that I’ve been perfect about it. I still end up leaving it in my bag at my desk most of the time, which is unfortunate because I often miss out on recording in-the-moment things.

Today, for example, I left my camera in my bag as I went out around the corner to pick up lunch with a colleague. Just outside our building, there was a long row of trucks and trailers. From the signs on the doors, apparently they were filming scenes for The Listener. I didn’t see any filming action, but my colleague told me that earlier in the day he saw a scene were something like a homeless or shabby guy got into a police cruiser and drove off. He was wondering what the hell was going on, but realized that it was just part of the show. Even though nothing too interesting was going on in terms of filming, it seill would have been cool to get a few photos.

As we rounded the corner to Queen St. we saw couple of people carrying flags while walking in the middle of the road. I told my coworker that the flags were Tibetan. As we drew closer we saw that it wasn’t just a few people–it was a full blown protest march. There was a lot of chanting and almost a sense of palpable frustration among those participating. I stopped on the sidewalk to watch. Really, the only words that came out of my mouth in reference to the whole thing: “Sweet Jesus…” The procession passed us by pretty quickly, so it’s not like I would have had time to really go back and fetch my camera.

Mental note: next time, bring gear for evidenciary purposes.
