Toning down the intensity

So maybe in the workplace a have a little bit of a tendency to be somewhat intense. Is that necessarily a bad thing? Well, it’s certainly useful in times when a deadline is looming because it almost seems like I’m drawing from a vast reservoir of energy that’s normally out of reach for me. At other times though, I wonder if my focus is misplaced. Yesterday, I offered a solution for one of the bugs to a new team member. He…didn’t take it too well and left work early and in a huff. I understand there were other factors to him not taking it too well, but it still kind or irks me that I may have indirectly pushed him to that point. We’re in one of those deadline periods, so I’m full-on in that “go! go! go!” state of mind. If there’s something that sort of holding things up, and I can offer a solution, I will see if I can act on it. I guess I realize that I need to let other people do their job, and that sometimes I just need to sit on my hands and leave things alone. Still, in this case, I wasn’t really taking anything over–I was just pointing out exactly where the issue was, know what I mean? I think I was just trying to be helpful to someone still learning the ropes.

Well, in any case, I have no control over how I’m ultimately perceived after I’ve made an effort, so what can I do, right? Everyone’s stressed out. Things may have been different under more normal circumstances. It all remains to be seen.
