Yesterday I experienced something that every shovelling Canadian will probably go through at least once. It took me an hour to clear most of the driveway. Due to one of our neighbours parking on the roadway when the plow came around, the plow couldn’t get all that close to our driveway leaving a snowbank four feet out into the street blocking our path. Damn it! It took a lot of extra time just to clear that far out. Eventually I managed to clear the path, at which point I focused on clearing the front porch. Just when I started though, another snow plow came along. Oh, I was mildly happy when I saw that it could swerve in and clear some extra snow because the neighbour’s car was no longer there. The happiness faded when it formed yet another snowbank at the foot of the driveway. I gave the plow driver an evil look, but I doubt he even noticed. If he did, then maybe he relishes being something of a sadist. That’s the thing. You can’t even be too angry at the people working the plows because without them the streets would be a big mess, right? Still…
If the ancient mythology authors were around these days, I might suggest that that would be a task in Tartarus. Some poor soul would be forced to clear a driveway of a couple of feet of snow, but just when they’re finished a plow would come along to create a new bank. This would be never-ending. Ooh. Shovel hell.
